Needs and Wants

I teach Junior Achievement to 1st graders, and a major part of the lesson is teaching the difference between needs and wants. It really is pretty funny to hear their explanation for things that are "needs." Like a television and a computer. THESE ARE NEEDS to these kids. They say:
"How will we know the weather?".......Look outside

"How will we know the news?"........newspapers, radio, what did people do 200 years ago?
"We have to play video games...it's a need."

Or sweet little Aiden, who said his dog was a NEED. When I asked why he responded with, "What if you are dying and the only thing that can save you is your dog?"

Okay kid, you've got a point! How do you argue with that?

Well, my dear daughter needs a lesson on needs and wants too.

She seems to think princess movies, dvd players, Finding Nemo, brown sugar pop tarts, and suckers are needs.
The second we get home from daycare she blurts:

"I need a sucker, I need a princess movie!"

Honey, if only you knew how lucky you were to have those as your "needs"!
